Design Process

Every project is different, but the strongest design work is supported by structure. Our process creates clear moments for exploration, decision-making, approval, and documentation so the vision can develop thoughtfully and remain consistent as the project moves forward.
01 | DISCOVER
We begin by understanding the architecture, lifestyle, priorities, aesthetic preferences, project team, investment parameters, and overall goals. This establishes the foundation for every decision that follows.
02 | DEFINE
We establish the project design narrative, overall direction, functional priorities, and key architectural opportunities. This is where the home begins to develop its own visual language.
03 | CURATE
Materials, finishes, fixtures, cabinetry, lighting, and key design elements are carefully developed into a cohesive palette. Options are edited intentionally so the process remains focused and decisions feel clear.
04 | VISUALIZE
Concept presentations, elevations, material studies, and renderings are used where appropriate to communicate the design before implementation and support informed approvals.
05 | DOCUMENT
Approved decisions are translated into detailed design documentation, specifications, schedules, and interior drawings appropriate to the agreed project scope.
06 | COORDINATE
NFID collaborates with the project team to answer design questions, clarify intent, review applicable samples and submittals, and maintain continuity as the project progresses.
07 | COMPLETE
As the home reaches its final stages, the focus shifts to finishing details, furnishings, styling, and the layers that give the residence a sense of completeness, as included within the project scope.
Project timelines are shaped by scope, construction schedules, approvals, product lead times, and the responsiveness of the project team. NFID establishes a project-specific schedule at the start of each engagement and updates milestones as needed.
